January 2006
Fresh back from the holidaze and desert life, Scott Mathews began work on a project for NASA. Not a top secret project, Scott Mathews composed and produced music to be used for an upcoming NASA 3-D extravaganza. This meeting of Hit or Myth Productions and the space program represents your hard earned tax money at work in the very best of ways.
Later in the month Scott produced a very demanding new piece from the contemporary opera composed by Mark Northcross. Filling Skywalker Ranch with an orchestra and five GIANT voices, this selection showcases a side of Scott’s work that has never been heard before. Being diverse has always been a feature of his creative muse but now with opera, it is fully realized. When I asked him what kind of new music is left for him to pursue, he mentioned ‘Death Metal Polka’ but then he said he remembered a project from a few years back that resembled that remark.
Mixing and editing for the opera went on at TikiTown with Tom Luekens loving every minute of it, reading the long score as he went along. It helps to have a violin player mix an opera!
