Zadita Smith continued to take not only TikiTown by storm, but the whole Bay Area. Her natural charisma and loving spirit was contagious and by the time the project wrapped up in the middle of the month, she had fans all over not wanting to see her go back to England. She turned 23 during the project and had to turn down multiple offers of parties for her in order to concentrate on the music. What discipline! What a pro! She is a very special talent in her writing and performance in addition to being an amazingly soulful person. Luckily, she returns in August to make the companion piece to the first recording (called "Falling Up"), featuring a more electric sound next time out. Go Z!
Coming in from the freezing northern-most area of Canada for a quick 'throw down' EP was Porter Z. The experiment for this project was to see how much cool stuff he and Scott could put together in two days before Scott left town while Tom mixed on the third day. The experiment worked. Five finished tunes and a lot of fun came out of it and Porter left for Nashville (and the rest of the world) to showcase his new sound.
SXSW happened like it always does in Austin, TX this time of year and as usual Scott was there for all of it. Four days of music and music biz with the most incredible group of 1,800 artists (emerging and legendary), brains (figuring out new models for our industry), poseurs (what would it be without the pathetic fringe?) and party people (the real reason for the whole damn thing). Not to mention the BBQ . . . this event offers everything except the possibility of sleep!
